FIFA World Cup Group B teams – England and USA

FIFA World Cup Group B

England:

Group B at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in
Qatar offers perhaps some of the most exciting fixtures of the entire
tournament, with the United States and England leading an exciting group. The
United States have played both England and Iran in Group B at previous World
Cups, most notably when the USA stunned England by eliminating them in 1950.
The two met again in 2010 and shared a tie where the USA led the group. in
South Africa. England will start this tournament as strong bookies favorites to
win the group stage, but also got an intriguing match against one of their
closest rivals, Wales. Robert Page’s team emerged victorious from the play-offs
and secured a place in the final after beating Austria (in March) and then
Ukraine (in June). This European play-off final was postponed to June due to
the war in Ukraine caused by the Russian invasion.

England started the tournament in good
shape. Undefeated for a year and a half (short of a penalty in the Euro 2020
final against Italy) with promising youngsters and nearly guaranteed goals in
Harry Kane’s attack. Gareth Southgate’s team can also shake off the
expectations that have kept them from performing well in many knockout games
over the past three decades. Despite their best efforts, they have not reached
the top since the 1966 World Cup. One player to keep an eye on is Manchester
City’s Raheem Sterling, who will turn 28 during the tournament. In 2012, he
made his England debut against Sweden alongside another debutant, Leon Osman.
The former Everton and England midfielder told Football Now that he knew
Sterling was destined to be at the top from the tender age of 17. “He was
really young and yet utterly outstanding. You could see his qualities. He was a
bit raw and needed a few things to define and refine. But you could say he was
natural and it’s no surprise that he does what he did and achieved. I hope he
can achieve even more for his country at this year’s World Cup.”

USA:

The United States will join the group for the
2022 World Cup, narrowly beating Costa Rica in the regional qualifiers on goal
difference. This is the 11th time the US Men’s National Team (USMNT) has
appeared on the world stage, with the best result coming in the semi-finals of
the first tournament in 1930. Undoubtedly, Gregg Berhalter’s team has enough
young talent to break out of the group and should keep the fans happy along the
way as they plan for a potential big World Cup win. Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic
is expected to play the lead role, while Borussia Dortmund’s Gio Reina is
expected to provide creative impetus in attack. The US will be a real threat to
the teams given their 21 qualifying goals.

The U.S. Men’s National Team heads into
the 2022 World Cup looking to make meaningful progress after missing the 2018
tournament in Qatar. The 2022 event is a kind of opportunity to make amends
after the disappointment of four years ago. The USMNT finished fifth in the
final group stage of the CONCACAF qualifiers and lost. Now head coach Gregg
Berhalter is bringing 26 of his best players to the Middle East to seize the
moment. Led by Chelsea striker and national team talisman Christian Pulisic,
the USMNT hopes to reach the group stage and appear in the round of 16, but
were drawn against European clubs England and Wales and Asian country Iran in
Group B. a significant challenge. The USA kicks off their World Cup journey
with what could be the most important game of the group stage as the Stars
& Stripes take on Wales. The game with and against Gareth Bale should prove
crucial to getting out of Group B, with the Dragons expected to be the USA’s
toughest competition in the battle for the coveted second qualifying spot.
