Bayern ends group stage with win over Inter on Tuesday

Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting celebrating win

Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting continued his lethal form against Bayern Munich on Tuesday as the German giants beat Inter Milan 2-0 to complete a perfect Champions League group stage record.

Choupo-Moting scored for the sixth game in a row with a brilliant second-half shot from long range to seal a comfortable home win for Bayern Munich.

The victory took Bayern to six wins from six group stage matches, the second in a row and the third in four years in which they have achieved the feat.

“We knew it would be something special to win all six games, especially in a tough group like this,” said Choupo-Moting, whose team overcame supposed death row with victories over the ‘Inter, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen.

With Bayern already group winners and Inter in second place before kick-off, both managers rested several champions, effectively a dead ring in Group C.

Still, it was still a game in the opening minutes, with both goalkeepers challenging long-range shots from Joshua Kimmich and Nicolo Barella.

Inter Milan were unfortunately denied an early penalty when Sadio Mane appeared to block Barella’s shot with his hands in the air.

Bayern scored another lucky break in the first half when Lautaro Martinez headed Robin Gosens’ cross over the bar.

“If we had taken the lead the game would have been different, but we know how strong Bayern are,” Gosens said.

The hosts slowly regained control and took a deserved lead from a corner just after half an hour.

Martinez made another regret of it by slipping into the surface where Benjamin Pavard got up without incident to initiate the kick-off.

Pavard’s goal came after the Bild newspaper reported on the club’s discipline and the suspension of his driving license after he exceeded the legal alcohol limit.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann arrived after the match to confirm the news.

“Benji admitted his mistake. Now it had consequences for both the national team and the club, so it’s time to move on. I’m glad he managed to score a goal too important on what was not the easiest day,” he said. told Prime Video.

Choupo-Moting found the net with an elegant header on the stroke of half-time, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

However, the veteran striker remains in irresistible form and was unstoppable when he fired into the Bayern top corner in the 73rd minute.
