Bayern celebrates victory 5-0 against Freiburg

Bayern 5-0 Freiburg

FC Bayern beat SC Freiburg
5-0 on Sunday, rising to second place in the Bundesliga table. Serge Gnabry and
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting handed Bayern a two-goal lead before half-time. Leroy
Sané and Sadio Mané netted after the restart, with Marcel Sabitzer rounding off
the scoreline in the closing stages.

The German record
champions lined up with Sven Ulreich in goal and Noussair Mazraoui, Dayot
Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich
and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Gnabry, Sané and Mané, with
Choupo-Moting up front. Jamal Musiala, Benjamin Pavard, Sabitzer, Mathys Tel
and Josip Stanišić came on for Choupo-Moting, de Ligt, Goretzka, Sané and
Mazraoui in the second half.

For the first time since the 3-1 draw against Borussia
Dortmund on the second day of the game, SC Freiburg has lost a competitive
game. At FC Bayern Munich it was a clear 0: 5 (0: 2) on Sunday. “We wanted
to go out there, be brave and get into the duels – like we always do. But we didn’t
succeed. We were always a step slower and not aggressive enough. Today we were
simply not physically and mentally able to beat Bayern We had to stand up to it
and that’s why we lost relatively heavily,” said Christian Streich late at
night at the press conference in the Allianz Arena. The third away trip within
seven days led the Freiburg travel entourage to the Allianz Arena to the
reigning champions. The coaching team made four changes to the starting XI
compared to the 4-0 win in Nantes: Lukas Kübler, Yannik Keitel, Nils Petersen
and Wooyeong Jeong started with Kiliann Sildillia, Maxi Eggestein, Michael
Gregortisch and – for the first time this season – Kevin Schade . The Bayen
were also in action during the week and with the 4-2 win in Pilsen they made it
clear ahead of time that they would make it into the knockout stages of the
Champions League. Julian Nagelsmann made four changes in the first team against
Breisgau. Josip Stanisic, Benjamin Pavard, the suspended Kingsley Coman and the
injured Thomas Muller were replaced by Alphonso Davies, Matthijs de Ligt, Serge
Gnabry and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The first minutes of the game made it
clear that the Sport-Club wouldn’t hide from the record champions either. The
front line of the Freiburg ran high at the Bavarians and initially forced the
back team of the hosts to do many an uncontrolled liberation or lose the ball.
After an initial overture by Ritsu Doan, however, it was Bayern who were to own
the more dangerous scenes in the first half. After several Freiburg players had
slipped away while moving backwards, Alphonso Davies just missed Mark Flekken’s
goal with a powerful shot from the back. A few minutes later, Serge Gnabry took
the lead. After a low cross from the left, Mark Flekken was able to parry Leroy
Sané from close range, but the Dutchman was powerless when Gnabry then scooped
the ball with his head. The Sport-Club almost equalized the 0:1, but Matthias
Ginters’ attempt from the edge of the penalty area following a corner was
deflected half a meter wide of the goal by Sven Ulreich – the substitute for
the injured Manuel Neuer). Despite the occasional flashes of Freiburg offensive
moments, Bayern gained field superiority and a significant increase in chances
in the course of the first half. The 0:2 by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in minute
33 corresponded to the conditions on the pitch. The striker prevailed in the
penalty area in a duel with Matthias Ginter and hit the far corner with a flat
shot from a difficult position, which is well worth seeing. Since Mark Flekken
made a strong save shortly afterwards against Serge Gnabry, who was freed by
Leroy Sané (39th), Freiburg remained two goals behind in the Allianz Arena
until the half-time whistle. The sports club bravely came out of the dressing room
– and at the end of a grueling week, they quickly conceded goals number three
and four. Leroy Sané and Sadio Mané played their way in front of the penalty
area with a one-two, where Sané made it 3-0 with a well-placed shot that
Flekken couldn’t defend. Three pointer turns later, Mané appeared free in front
of the Freiburg box and scored Munich’s fourth goal with a lob. Although the
sports club didn’t give up, they still lacked penetrating power in the game
going forward. Julian Nagelsmann’s eleven, on the other hand, shifted down a
gear and concentrated on not letting the guests penetrate the sixteen, which,
with a few exceptions, was successful. Substitute Marcel Sabitzer then ensured
the final score with a flick into the far corner.
