West Ham United celebrated five wins at the London Stadium with a deserved 2-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth.
The French defender headed in just before the break after Thilo Kehrer and Tomáš Souček saved a Jarrod Bowen corner.
After the break, Declan Rice and Souček were close to second for West Ham before Saïd Benrahma grabbed all three points with an emphatic penalty in stoppage time.
VAR was the focus of AFC Bournemouth’s 2-0 loss to West Ham United on Monday night.
Goals from Kurt Zouma and Said Benrahman in the closing stages of each half gave the hosts victory at London Stadium.
The Bournemouth had been comfortable and aggrieved for a long time after the handball protests against Thilo Kehrer before the decisive goal was disallowed both at the stadium and after a VAR review. However, Zouma’s efforts continued and David Moyes’ team took all three points.
Substitute Jordan Zemura was penalized by VAR at game time for handball, and Benrahma stepped forward from the penalty kick to secure points for the home team.
Gary O’Neil has named an unchanged line-up for Wednesday’s home loss to Southampton, with Jack Stephens returning in place of Siriki Dembele.
The Bournemouth started well and created the opening goal in the eighth minute when ex-West Ham Ryan Fredericks broke well down the right and cut the box. The hosts were unable to clear at all and Phil Billing was able to help return the ball to Dom Solanke from six yards out, but Lukasz Fabianski went wide of the line.
David Moyes’ first chance came from Tomas Soucek in the 11th minute when he soared higher to meet a dangerous cross from Aaron Creswell, but he could only shoot over the bar when he could have done better.
Although the visitors continued to dominate the ball, they almost fell in the 18th minute. Ben Johnson’s low cross danced around the area before falling on Flynn Downes, whose low shot was well parried by Chris Mepham, before Ben Johnson’s left-footed follower Neto Cresswell flipped acrobatically over the bar.
After this period of pressure at home, the game broke down and neither man was able to get going.
It took until the 37th minute for both teams to try again when Solanke latched onto a poor pass from Soucek in the middle and powerfully drove Thilo Kehrer into the box, but Fabianski was easily able to cut off his low shot. left.
Then, just before half time, West Ham were in front as the Bournemouth struggled to win a corner and Zouma headed Soucek into the corner from six yards out.
The visitors argued that the goal should have been ruled out when Kehrer appeared to direct the ball towards goal with a fledgling hand, but a VAR review ruled that he should be kept.
O’Neil and Adam Smith protested to the referee when the halftime whistle blew, with the former receiving a yellow card as he left the field.
The hosts were in front after the restart but were limited to two long-range shots from Benrahman, neither of which upset Mark Travers – the Irish goalkeeper came on for the injured Neto at half-time.
It was called off after an hour and he had to react well to save a powerful 20-yarder from Declan Rice.
As the Irons struggled to double their lead, Benrahma picked off Bowen with a deflected pass, but the England striker’s cross volley was smothered by substitute keeper Mark Travers. Scamacca and Bowen then combined beautifully, although Bowen’s shot was blocked, before Delan Rice’s brave volley stung the visitors’ palms.
The Bournemouth began to gain traction soon after when backups Jordan Zemura and Jaidon Anthony combined well down the left. Kieffer Moore, who came on just before half-time to replace Solanke, who seemed to be carrying the punch, was also a handful up front, but they had yet to find a clear chance.
Moore managed to push Jeferson Lerma back through the goal in the 72nd minute, but the Colombian could only head wide from 10 yards.
The Bournemouth continued to level, and were awarded a penalty of their own when Johnson popped in with the hand, but the referee overruled it.
West Ham sealed victory late in the game when Zemura blocked a cross from Vladimir Coufal. The referee initially indicated by hand, but the VAR did not agree and decreed a penalty.
Benrahma stepped forward and confidently sent Travers the wrong way and hit the ball into the back net to take the points.
The third consecutive win at home in the Premier League lifts the Irons to 10th place in the table.
